The Samsung Galaxy A7 and the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) are both slim, premium looking phones with metal frames and Gorilla Glass 4. The 7.3 mm thick Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) is a little thicker than the 6.3 mm thick Samsung Galaxy A7 in order to accommodate a larger battery. The 5.5-inch screen on both phones manages to strike the right balance between a large display and ease of carrying around and using the phone all day.
The 5.5” 1080 x 1920 pixel (401 ppi) screen on the Galaxy A7 and Galaxy A7 (2016) uses Samsung’s flagship Super AMOLED technology for a stunning display. Colours on the screen are rich, accurate and life-like, with good levels of contrast and sharp details. Both phones have similar screen specifications, though the upgraded screen on the Galaxy A7 (2016) is brighter and has greater colour accuracy.
With slightly different specifications, both the Samsung Galaxy A7 and the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) deliver a strong performance. Both phones have an octa-core processor i.e four cores are used for high-performance tasks while the other four cores reduce power consumption (thereby helping conserve the battery) in less heavy tasks. The phones perform even heavy tasks smoothly and quickly.
The Samsung Galaxy A7 comes with an Exynos 5430 octa-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) has a slightly different chipset. It uses the Exynos 7580 octa-core processor and also comes with a larger 3 GB RAM. This difference is noticeable while multi-tasking, where the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) is a little faster.
While the Samsung Galaxy A7 has a built-in 2600mAh Li-ion battery, the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) has a slightly bigger 3300mAh battery. Both batteries have good capacity and can last a long time between charges. Power utilisation is also optimized due to the octa-core processor.
Both the Samsung Galaxy A7 and the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) come with a 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP front-facing camera. However, there are small differences in the cameras and features of both models.
The rear camera on both the Samsung Galaxy A7 and the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) is a 13 MP camera, which produces crisp, detailed images. However, the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) has a slightly wider aperture of f 1.9 (as opposed to f 2.0 on the Samsung Galaxy A7). HDR mode in both cameras results in amazing images in high-contrast situations. Video in both models can be shot at a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080px at 30fps. The OIS in the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) results in videos with less blur and shake than the one shot on the Samsung Galaxy A7.
The front-facing selfie camera on both models is a 5 MP camera. Similar to the rear camera, the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) has a slightly wider aperture of f 1.9 (as opposed to f 2.2 on the Samsung Galaxy A7). The camera features on both phones allow wide selfies for group shots.
